The top 3 reasons couples divorce

by | Mar 14, 2019 | Uncategorized

Marriage rates have dipped in the past couple of years, mostly due to more and more millennials choosing not to tie the knot. One of the reasons behind this trend is the fear and chaos that often comes in the wake of divorce.

Separation and divorce can have lasting effects for both spouses. The driving force behind the ending can cause negative feelings to flare up. The top three reasons for divorce may not surprise anyone, especially if the process has already begun for you.

1. Cheating

Infidelity is the top cause of divorce. Cheating happens for many reasons, and just about anybody can fall prey to the temptation. Do not think of infidelity just in terms of the physical – emotional affairs happen more frequently. While these often turn into physical indiscretions, it is not always the case.

2. Money problems

The stress and strain of too little money can cause a rift between spouses. You may feel like you are making all the sacrifices to hang on to a budget while your spouse is off spending and putting you two deeper into debt. Needing to support a family takes money, especially if you want your kids in the best school districts possible. It may mean higher rent or cost of living.

3. Communication inconsistencies

Partners who stop talking or having productive communication can bend in the face of adversity. Their needs often go unmet, and they simply drift apart. The length of the marriage does not determine how well two people communicate. This does not mean every minute of your time together you and your partner need to talk. It means when it comes down to expressing feelings, and having open and honest conversations about things, you may fall silent.

Divorce for any reason is tough. In Massachusetts, the better the parties can get along during the court process, the more fruitful their future lives turn out.
